The Carmel of Jerusalem – the first to be founded in the Holy Land – was founded in 1973 thanks to the encounter, in April 1872, of the Princess Aurelie de la Tour d’Auvergne and Mother Xavier. The foundation was enabled thanks to the will of the Carmel of Carpentras from which came Mother Aloysia, first prioress of our Carmel.
150 years since our Foundation! On October 15th, 2022, we had the grace to celebrate the opening of this Jubilee with our Patriarch Mgr Pierbattista Pizzaballa. This year he sent us a pastoral letter to encourage us to continue our mission in the Holy Land, on the mount of Olives, stating that: “Your presence on the mount of Olives, in a difficult civil context, is very important thanks to your prayers, for our Church and is fruitful for Jerusalem and its pilgrims.” He entrusted us to pray for peace in our country, in Holy Land, in Palestine. He also asked us to extend this prayer for all the people of the Middle East, so that the Prince of Peace and his Mother may bring, from God the Father, “fraternity and peace!”
On October 15th, 2023, the Holy Mass was presided by Mgr William Shomali, auxiliary bishop of Jerusalem, with ten priests, and many religious and lay persons.
During this Mass celebration, our Sister Helene of the Holy Cross celebrated the Jubilee of 25 years of her religious profession.
Our prayers and thanks go to all of you who came to join us for this celebration and thanksgiving in our chapel this 15th of October, though the state is at war; the same to all of you who were united in prayer!
